Challenge

For International Women's Day 2023, Leanne Rule was asked by MTV to create one of their iconic artist series idents. It was her dream to create something that would live up to this channel’s weirdness, and so she decided to create a pink spaghetti nightmare. Playful textures and wobbly animation fit right into MTV’s world and pay a beautiful homage to WMD.

Solution

Hip Hop beats led by a pitched and modulated brass section creates a fun but, at the same time, unsettling atmosphere of the spaghetti nightmare. Bubbly, wobbly and rubbery sound effects were used to fit in with the quirkiness of Leanne’s style whilst not making it sound too cartoony and childlike but still in the realm of daytime MTV broadcast.
